The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to make a recommendation about screening for type 2 diabetes in asymptomatic children and adolescents younger than age 18. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that as of 2018 approximately 23,000 children and adolescents had type 2 diabetes, and data indicate that the incidence is rising. The USPSTF routinely makes recommendations about the effectiveness of preventive care services and has not previously released a recommendation on this topic.
