If you've had the old shingles vaccine, you'll still benefit from getting the new one

A new study has found that RZV achieved over 50% vaccine effectiveness (VE) against any herpes zoster (HZ), or shingles, outcome in both older and immunocompromised adults. The results suggest individuals vaccinated with ZVL should be revaccinated with two doses of RZV. The study is published in Annals of Internal Medicine.

The new shingles vaccine is effective in older adults and beneficial for people who have already had the older vaccine option, according to a US study.  Researchers used insurance data to study the real-world outcomes of Shingrix vaccination among almost 3.5 million over 65s. They estimate at least one dose of the Shingrix vaccine was 56.1% over a year for any shingles-related symptoms, with two doses more effective. The vaccine was similarly effective for immunocompromised people and the general population, they say.
